Safe and efficient intersections are vital for everyday mobility for residents in Southern California. With increasing traffic and a need for enhanced safety at key points, Caltrans District 12 identified a pressing need to upgrade and expand its roadside technology. Ensuring that intersections operate smoothly while prioritizing the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists was crucial to maintaining the quality of life for residents in the area.
Partnering with Western Systems and Yunex Traffic for Advanced RSU Technology
To address this challenge, Caltrans District 12 partnered with Western Systems and Yunex Traffic to expand its deployment of Roadside Units (RSUs). Building on their previous purchase of 188 units, they’ve now added 52 RSUs at key intersections throughout the district. These units utilize advanced technologies like SPaT (Signal Phase and Timing) and TIM (Traveler Information Messages) to provide real-time traffic information and enhance traffic management.
By leveraging these cutting-edge RSUs, Caltrans 12:
