The Woman Behind the Systems That Keep the West Running

An inside look at Karen’s journey, her steady leadership, and the laughter and care she brings to our team every day.

When we sat down with Karen, we thought we would talk mostly about wiring, cabinets, and production timelines. And we did. But I also learned a lot more. We saw her steady style, her sense of humor, and the way she supports the people around her.

Karen has been with Western Systems for 15 years. She told us she joined the company when the production team was pretty small. “There were maybe five or six of us,” she said. Today, she leads a team that has doubled in size. She organizes the work, checks details, and makes sure every cabinet we build meets the standard our cities expect.

During our conversation, she explained how the work has changed. Years ago, cabinets were simple. Wiring was quick. Builds were predictable. Now technology moves fast, and every cabinet includes more devices, more communication equipment, and more versions of the same design. “I like the challenge,” she said with a smile. “The basics are the same, but we keep growing with the technology.”

What stood out the most was the way Karen talks about her team. She cares about them the same way she cares about her own family. She supports them, teaches them, and looks out for them. She also knows when someone needs a good laugh. Her humor is a big part of the shop’s atmosphere. A quick joke from her can lighten a busy day and bring the whole team back together.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading and puzzle games. But her heart belongs to her family. She told us about her husband — 35 years together. She told us about her children. And she told about her three grandbabies, who are 9, 8, and 4 months old. She talks about them with warmth and pride. It is clear that family is at the center of her life.

That same love and care show up every day at work. Her leadership affects every job on the floor. And her craftsmanship reaches far beyond our shop. The cabinets she helps build support intersections across the West. They keep people safe during storms, power outages, emergencies, and the usual rush of daily traffic.

Talking with her reminded us that the strength of our company comes from people like Karen. She is skilled, steady, caring, and funny. She keeps the work moving, she lifts the people around her, and her impact reaches into communities we may never even see.
